Nestled deep in the Lake District, High Arnside Farm is a special place for many people and some may recognise it as “Fell Farm” as featured by Marjorie Lloyd in her three books published in the 1950’s.

The farm is approached by a single tarmac track ½ mile long and sits high up in the fells with outstanding views of the beautiful surrounding countryside. The scenery is simply breathtaking at any time of the year: whether it is during the winter with snow-capped mountains, during the spring with the fresh green leaves, summer when the fells are festooned in bracken or in the autumn where the trees display their colourful autumn leaves.

Every year we welcome back many guests – some have been coming to stay here way before we arrived! It seems the magic of the farm has a wide appeal and we thank all our regular guests for loving it as much as we do.

We have two cottages, High Arnside and Low Arnside. High Arnside is located in the hub of the farm, next door to our farmhouse whilst Low Arnside is situated approx. ¼ mile away down a single track.

If you are coming to the Lakes to enjoy the many footpaths and bridleways you will be spoilt for choice as High Arnside Farm is surrounded by them. There are gentle walks around Tarn Hows, just 20 minutes walk from the farm, or more challenging climbs up The Old Man of Coniston or Wetherlam.

Mountain bikers will love the forest trials through the Grizedale Forest which is easily accessible from the farm.

For those wishing to explore the lakes and tarns, Coniston Water, Esthwaite, Tarn Hows, Grasmere and Windermere are all within a 20 minute drive away. We even have our own small Fish Tarn on the farm, but sadly it is no longer stocked. The Steam Gondola cruises up Coniston Water stopping off at Brantwood whilst on Windermere the Steamers takes passengers from Water Head, Ambleside all the way down to Lakeside. If getting out on the water is more your thing, there are lots of activities available on Coniston Water and Windermere. A car is really essential when staying at the farm, even if you only want to pick up some groceries, but we do have some good locals inns to visit including the Drunken Duck, Outgate, The Britannia Inn, Elterwater and the Three Shires, Little Langdale.

High Arnside Farm is a traditional hill farm owned by the National Trust. We run a flock of Cheviot sheep and a beef herd of Limousin Cross and Belted Galloway cattle.

We have been tenants here since 1996 and feel very honoured to be living in one of the most beautiful places in England.

We enjoy welcoming guests to our farm and pride ourselves in making sure things are just right. Both our cottages are cosy and appeal both to couples wishing to escape and to families who want to give their children the freedom of being on a farm.

Whatever the reason, High Arnside is a perfect place to stay in the Lake District.
